Event Conneqion Trade Expo - What you need to know about organising events

Brooke Catches up with Adam Buick, Events Manager with Expertise Events (www.expertiseevents.com.au) at their annual Event Conneqions Trade Expo in Brisbane.

Event Conneqions is all about the events industry in South East Queensland.  It is an event designed to promote South East Queensland as a destination to go and host events, either corporate functions, or social functions and also to help the industry meet it the other people and its competitors.

Some of the main features for people coming to the show this year are things like our blimp screen feature out the front which is a blow up screen that can take anywhere.  We got a huge focus on team work activities, so if you want to take your company on a laser skirmish day or rock climbing to build the team spirit amongst them you can come here and find out the latest activities in that, and also some of the latest and best venues in Queensland.

It’s really important to be up to date with fresh ideas and industry suppliers in this industry.  Its one of the industries that moves really fast and your always looking for the next thing you can do in your show to either distinguish yourself from your competitors or to have ideas that you possibly wouldn't have though of previously.

Students from coming to this show can learn the industry, it’s all about networking and it’s all about meeting the people in the industry, because you never know where that can take you.  So from a student point of view you come to benchmark the company you work in against its competitors and also find out what’s new and interesting in the industry.

Students that come to the show can use this information to obviously understand the industry their working in, not just stay in their one cocoon in their own little job and make contacts.  Because, definitely out of all the industries you could be in hospitality or events industry is all about being out there and knowing people and actually understanding what’s going to be happening next.

Now for expertise events, our company, we do 37 events a year.  This is a unique event for use, we only do this once a year, it’s an annual show up in Brisbane but we do many events in other cities up and down the coast.

The most important thing event managers need to know in organising an event is have immaculate organisational skills know exactly what's going on, you've only got one chance to get it right.   I'd also say you've also got to have a sense of humour and be able to laugh along the way with your clients.  Its probably one of the most stressful industries around at the moment, so a sense of humour and immaculate organisational skills.

For us organising a show, this event is actually a 12 month process.  It starts out from when this show will finish, tomorrow, and we'll look through to developing a concept for next year, floor plan, rebooking the exhibitors or going out their and attracting new exhibitors to the show and this is something that we work on for a full twelve months, and its not just one person its actually an entire group of people from sales people to marketing people to operations people to actually help pull this together.

People can find out about next years expo when going to our website www.expertiseevents.com.au there it list of all the shows we do and we will be giving them information about all the things that are happening next year and they can get in contact with us from that.
