For too long disgraceful restaurants and shonky food producers have been escaping public scrutiny.
Filthy restaurants and cafes have been fined and the details kept secret from the public. That is all about to change.
Today I am happy to report that Health Minister Stephen Robertson has shown good sense by backing my campaign for disreputable operators to be named and shamed. ''The public has the right to know that the food they consume is safe and be aware of any food business that may compromise their health and safety,'' he said. ''Our blacklist means that food suppliers and restaurants that put the safety of Queenslanders at risk will be putting their reputation at risk. ''Not only will they face the courts, but they will now face their potential customers and clients with a black mark against their name. ''The name of any food business or individual successfully prosecuted by the state for food safety breaches will be published on the Queensland Health website and stay there for two years.''
