The Holiday Inn Brisbane and the Kedron and Wavell Services Club have been working with Tranzitions@Work and 7 north side schools on an adopt a school program to hold its first industry based try a trade. Named the Hospitality Skills Tour, over 170 students experienced hospitality skills in an industry environment.
Through the generosity of our industry partners, students rotated through 5 activities frosting glasses and measuring in the bar, making deserts or pasta in the kitchens, setting function tables in the auditorium, making coffees in the café and making beds in a simulated hotel room also in the auditorium.
All students moved through the activities with ease and enjoyed the experience and hands on aspect of the tour. The staff of Kedron and Wavell Services Club and the Holiday Inn Brisbane worked with the students and provided information about their own career and shared tips and stories about day to day life working in hospitality.
Students received an official WorldSkills Try a Trade certificate listing the activities undertaken for their resume.
QTIC Skills link would like to thank all those involved in the planning and execution of the day.
